This is just another effort by the statists to deprive ordinary people of the means to transport themselves where they want to go. The statists have long resented personal sources of transportation for the same reason they oppose gun ownership and even the use of fireworks: each represents the decentralization of power into the hands of individuals, the consequences of which weaken the primacy of collectivism. The same people who hate privately-owned autos – their own limousines excepted, of course – are great advocates of “public transportation,” which allows them to more directly control the movements of people.
