Privacy for your Webmail

Do you enjoy the benefits of webmail but prefer to be the only one who reads your email? Would you prefer that the people you send email to be the only recipients?

You don’t have to choose between webmail and privacy. FireGPG is a Firefox plugin that, once installed, makes sending encrypted email a one-click process.Since FireGPG isn’t a key manager, you’ll need to install GPG first, and then create a key pair:

If you are using Microsoft Windows, you have to download WinPT and GPG, and install it at the default location.

If you are using Mac OS, you need to download and install GPG for Macs.

If you are using GNU/Linux, you can install it with your favorite package manager (like Synaptic, YaST, Yum, etc.) or from its official website.

Once you’ve installed FireGPG and created key pairs, you’ll find several new buttons in your GMail account when you go to compose your next email. Instead of clicking “Send”, simply click “Sign, Crypt, and Send” to send an email to anyone you’ve exchanged public keys with.

When you receive an encrypted email in your Gmail account, simply click “Decrypt this mail” and you will be shown the unencrypted version.
