President Reagan Shuts Down the Government

The best news to come out since the death of President Reagan is that the federal government is scheduled to shut down this Friday. I think Reagan must be smiling about that one. My old friend Murray Weidenbaum, who was Reagan’s first chairman of the council of economic advisers, once told me how Reagan once was on a real roll with his humorous, snide, Jackie Mason-style commentary about a “government shut-down” during his administration. Murray said it caused the whole room to break out in side-splitting laughter.
