Politicians As Psychopaths

Lew: Your last two blogs get to the essence of the evil of political systems. Any political science professor (it is not a “science,” by the way) accepts as a definition of government “an entity that enjoys a monopoly on the use of force within a given territory.” I use the word “violence” in place of “force,” but the thought is the same. Thus, political systems enjoy a monopoly on the use of violence. Upon whom is such violence to be used? Individuals. Thus, the people who are attracted to the power enjoyed by the state are people who want to employ violence against others in order to serve their personal interests. How does this not qualify them as psychopaths?

I must admit, however, that my concerns run not so much to the politicians, as to the ordinary people who sanction – i.e., who believe in the necessity for – such deranged behavior, particularly against themselves. I believe it is time to bring impeachment proceedings, not against the politicians, but against the ordinary people who are not living up to their obligations to see to it that their children do not live under tyranny.
