Political Funeral Mass

Why, among all the other unfortunate aspects of Teddy Kennedy’s funeral, was the centerpiece a political speech by Obama? Why did he receive a standing ovation? Why was he hailed by the Cardinal? Why was the final “hymn” a song praising the government? Why was the entire event a celebration of Kennedy’s statism rather than a plea, of the sort we all need, for God’s mercy? Why was the famous anti-Christianite Keith Olbermann narrating it on MSNBC? He claimed we were “bound as a nation to this family” of Kennedys, as our “royal family.” Oh yeah? Chris Matthews used the moment to make envious fun of an actual royal family, the English. In an event, may Edward Kennedy’s soul rest in peace.
