EU nations (are they still nations?) get a police power upgrade in the form of more power to Europol as a standalone agency. This means an easier path to investigate serious crimes like racism, environmental crime, xenophobia, computer fraud, intolerance…you can see where that is headed, maybe even to big mouth libertarians who rant about guns and gold, or foes of climate change dogma or big banks. Who has not committed a crime these days or at some time secretly harbored some hatred, bias, intolerance, fear of strangers, and racial likes and dislikes? Plus it means access to behavioral data — that’s DNA, mate, plus whatever else has been filed by state police agencies on sexual habits, voiceprints, political preferences, places frequented, or any intemperate mouthing off, etc. Thus: Totalitarian of the Day Award to the faceless parliamentarians at the Hague. May all human imperfections become crimes to be policed by Europol, tracked down, punished, and eliminated from human society by the perfect parliamentarians who have earned this award.
