Free speech is essential, but making oneself be heard takes resources. Ask Julian Assange. And it takes resources to defend against those who attack one’s person and one’s speech. Ask Julian Assange. But the transfer of resources (money) requires a payments system and a money. But the government now has substantial control and regulation of payments systems, and that includes PayPal. And it has substantial control over the traditional methods of communication. Government has the power and tools to thwart free speech by interrupting payments. It will try to control the means of communication (internet included) as much as it can too. Free speech will be aided enormously by communications systems that are independent of government and by payments systems that are independent of government. P2p is important. E-gold is important. But as long as the sword of government hangs over them and us, free speech is endangered.
