Paul Samuelson, RIP

Like Ryan, I do hope that Prof. Samuelson finds his way to Heaven, although his brand of economics has helped create hell on earth. I had this post on the death of this economist who one of my best profs in the doctoral program at Auburn called a “second-rate mind.”

To be honest, I believe Samuelson did incalculable damage to economics, and it is a real tragedy for everyone that the intelligentsia listened to him instead of to Ludvig von Mises, F.A. Hayek, and Murray N. Rothbard—all three of whom towered over Samuelson in intellect and economic analysis.  Like most academic economists today, Samuelson knew aggregates and esoteric concepts, but his 1989 claim that socialism could produce wonderful “economic growth” proved once and for all he knew nothing about economics.
