On the way home from work I heard on the radio a plea by a union of prison bureaucrats that is against Governor Paterson’s plan to close a couple of minimum security prisons.
According to the ad, prison workers risk their lives to protect society by ensuring that the prisoners are reformed prior to their release.
Let’s see: there exists a criminal organization that steals money from me to establish a system to prevent others from stealing from me. Further, it incarcerates people who often have not committed crimes and pretends to “reform” them.
This makes perfect sense!
