Karen: And don’t forget that it was one of my folk-heroes, Joseph Schechter, a small Brooklyn poultry processor who insisted on slaughtering chickens according to kosher law, rather than those mandated by the National Recovery Administration, who was able to bring down the cornerstone of FDR’s New Deal — and the major business community’s long-desired system of state-enforced trade association policies — in the landmark Schechter case.
