In scoring an athletic event, does anything really matter but the victory? If we are going to be nationalistic, and do medal totals by countries, why should defeats count? Only the gold matters, though the US media starting adding gold winners and silver and bronze losers together in Cold War days so the US could be proclaimed the winner over the USSR. The same is true in these games. But if we just count the gold, here are the results:
