Chemical & Engineering News reports that American-trained PhD’s are getting harassed in Germany for “falsely” putting “Dr.” before their names on websites, business cards, etc… The reason is that they did not earn that “Dr.” at any institutions recognized by the German state. Lest you think this is a German anomaly, look into your own state’s statutes regarding “false claims” of academic degrees or titles.
Who are they protecting? State and federal accredited institutions – especially the tax-payer subsidized State Universities. We wouldn’t want an unaccredited group of people going around educating the masses!
