Obama is still trying to pressure Iran. This time it’s through China and through a meeting of six major powers with Iran in Geneva. The Geneva news item concludes “But a failure here may stir demands for a more forceful approach among those who want action to head off the nuclear program — including Israel, some Arab nations, and some American lawmakers.” Pro-war interests would like nothing better than to engineer more such “failures” so that an attack can be sold to the American public as the only viable alternative. But it is not. Rapprochement is viable.
Instead, Obama continues the Bush strategy of trying to end the Islamic Republic of Iran. Obama’s public statements and commitments to AIPAC, his weak initiatives, his continuing pressures and threats on Iran, and his continuation of covert subversion inside Iran show that he was never serious about an opening to Iran a la Nixon’s opening to China. Cable revelations confirm this.
