No, he has not backed away from the war on drugs/guns/poverty/&#147terror”/&#147inflation”/non-education/climate “change.” Sadly, it’s something much less dramatic. He has been featured on a billboard in Times Square wearing a Weatherproof-brand jacket. The company bought the rights to the image. Of course, The White House wants it removed.

Unlike his use of aggressive state power, Obama here is part of the market, and, for probably the first time since he became a politician, has done something good.

(Yes, yes—I realize that if Obama were an unknown the company would probably not have used the image, so it’s not quite the best possible scenario.)
