According to the president, common stocks are “potentially a good deal…if you have a long-term perspective on it.” Did FDR make a similar comment in 1933? If so, the long-term was more than 25 years, and it made no sense buy and hold stocks in the interim.
In fact, just as in the 1920s, many regular people were lured into the stock market boom of recent years, when they had no business being in an essentially speculative activity.
