Obama and the Empire Again Confront Russia

Obama has issued a fresh threat to Russia. He said that the U.S. “will stand with Ukraine in ensuring that that territorial integrity and sovereignty is maintained.”

Since the U.S. has violated the territorial integrity and sovereignty of any number of countries (recently Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, Serbia, and Pakistan), and since the U.S. has shown no respect for democratic institutions and elections in any number of countries (recently Egypt, Syria and Ukraine), and since Ukraine is a close neighbor of Russia with close relations going back centuries, and since the U.S. government has no vital interest in Ukraine, and since the vast majority of Americans have no vital interests in Ukraine, and since the U.S. has shown an unbending attitude of “take or it leave it” without a hint of using diplomacy, this kind of confrontation can only be understood as an attempt by Washington to extend the U.S. empire further and to weaken Russia.

It matters not in the least that Washington’s movers and shakers glibly talk of Russian aggression and act as if this were North Korea or North Vietnam revisited, or even the absorption of the Sudetenland. The recitation of these or other such supposed parallels merely shows the degree to which Washington’s leaders in their self-righteousness are blind to their own hypocrisy and the underlying thrust of expansion of the empire to which they fully subscribe. Their rhetoric merely shows how they are blinding themselves to what they are doing at present and what Washington has been doing for a very long time. Their thinking is literally frozen into cant (hypocritical and sanctimonious talk). They cannot escape it. Their inability to get outside their views reminds me of Jim Jones and the koolaid.
