‘Not Gonna Fly This Time’

Writes Eli Cryderman:

I have to travel from Chicago to Wichita in a few weeks and have opted to drive the ~10 hrs rather than deal with airports and airport parking loots lots, TSA mouth-breathing goons, irradiating porno-scanners, etc.  Wichita doesn’t have many direct flights, so the time savings of flying are virtually nil when considering you have to drive to the airport, arrive early to give plenty of violation time and change planes.  The 1,500-mile round trip, at a conservatively estimated 25mpg and $3/gallon of gas will cost $180; the same as a one-way flight would cost.  When I told the woman who makes our travel arrangements that I was going to drive for the aforementioned reasons, she replied “You are not alone,” and that she’s already chosen to do the same with her traveling.

I optimistically wonder if the airline industry will suffer enough of a drop in revenue from people choosing other means of travel to avoid being treated like a criminal, that they would lobby for a change in how and by whom security is administered to their clientele?  The cynic in me says they’d use their lobbyists for bailouts instead.  No matter; my family and I will no longer fly through airports with porn-scanners* and will opt out of air travel completely when driving is a viable option (thank goodness my family is not on either coast!).

Please keep the heat up on this topic; I feel more and more people are coming to the conclusion that the TSA is a joke and needs to be abolished.
