No Such Thing

This morning, Renee Montagne of NPR’s Morning Edition interviewed Leslie Gelb of our favorite “public policy research institute,” the Council on Foreign Relations, about the evolving situation in Iraq.

Gelb spoke at length about the Iraqi government, how it is “inefficient” but that’s politics in Iraq and the Iraqis know how to play it. And then Montagne, stunningly bright interviewer that she clearly is, asked Gelb what it would take on the part of the United States to help Iraqis create a “government worth dying for.”

Sigh… What do you do with such thinking? How on earth do you make people realize there is no such thing as a “government worth dying for?”
