Join me in Denver next Friday, February 8, for a discussion about the American Frontier in Film and TV:

The State vs. Spontaneous Order: Anarchism and The ‘Wild West’ in Film and TV.

I’ll explore a variety of topics including: The true extent of crime on the historical frontier,  the portrayals of the state vs. man (and woman) in the western genre, and the evolution of the Western from John Ford’s nationalistic fables to Clint Eastwood’s peacenik-fest Unforgiven.

I’ll revisit themes from my earlier article “The American West: A Heritage of Peace” and recent original research from my new book Commie Cowboys: The Bourgeoisie and the Nation-State in the Western Genre.

The event is a fundraiser for Liberty on the Rocks. From the event announcement:

Join us for a fun night of cocktails, great company, fantastic home-cooked food, and a thought-provoking discussion that will leave you questioning what you’ve been taught your entire life –  about the American Frontier and the possibilities of a free society.

Following a cocktail reception, dinner will be served at 7 pm while we hear briefly from co-founder Justin Longo of the Independence Institute on strategies for communicating the ideas of liberty. From there, we are pleased to welcome our featured presenter, Mr. Ryan McMaken of The Ludwig Von Mises Institute and LewRockwell.com. Mr. McMaken will present at 7:30 pm. Patron tickets are $35 and include dinner and dessert by Chef Ken Wyble
