Bush today called on the Senate to pass the “American Dream Downpayment Act,” his signature piece of housing welfare legislation. In her floor statement the bill, Katherine Harris said:
“As our nation continues to confront daunting threats both at home and abroad, we cannot neglect the most basic security of all, and that is a safe, clean, adequate place to live.”
The right to a clean place was a right traditionally ignored by the left. FDR’s four freedoms did not include the right to a clean place, and cleanliness is totality ignored in the Communist Manifesto. My colleague Daniel wonders if HUD will soon send out maids to ensure our right to a clean house.
