“Lawmakers vow to execute child rapists”
Really? With their bare hands?
What courage these lawmakers show in standing up to the pro-child rape lobby.
This does remind me of the fundmental problem with the death penalty, though. It assumes the state – the same state that can’t deliver the mail or win a war or build a working levee – is competent to provide a proper trial.
I endured a speech recently from a “libertarian” GOP candidate who, when asked about the dealth penalty was full of bravado in favor. I pointed out that a neighboring county had recently overturned the conviction of a man who had been convicted of a brutal murder about 10 years earlier. The cops basically concocted a case based on no physical evidense. Wasn’t it a good thing that he hadn’t been executed?
No answer.
