More Strangelovian Insanity from Hillsdale

The latest issue of Imprimis, published by Hillsdale College, highlights a speech urging war with Iran by neocon Michael Ledeen, who was instrumental in getting the Bush administration to lie us into the war in Iraq. Iran “is a country where lies and deception are a way of life,” he says. Ledeen should know.

“The Iranians are tricky,” we are told. You may not have known this, but “The Iranians have been at war against us for 30 years.” And we’re not shooting (nuking?) back, says Ledeen. “Only a madman can believe that negotiating with the Iranians will produce some result different from what we’ve had now for 30 years . . .”

The Iranian people would welcome an American military invasion of their country with parades of flowers and chocolates, in Ledeen’s opinion. “The Iranian people are waiting to see some kind of real action by the U.S.” to overthrow their government. Where have I heard this theory before??

And we’d better bomb quickly, for “They want us dead or dominated, just as our enemies did inthe 1930s . . .” There’s that Hitler comparison again.

Either we kill them NOW, or they will kill us,says the “Freedom Scholar” at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. For “there is no painless way out,and the longer we wait, the greater the pain is going to be.”
