More hidden costs due to regulation

Researchers at the Kenya Medical Research Institute describe one aspect of how government regulation encourages well-funded clinical trials (think Big Pharma) and discourages smaller clinical trials. Of course, they then conclude that “international health research organizations” should fund the development of open-source software to address these costs.

While they could have directed their call to private donors for medical research, such as Wellcome Trust (with which the authors are affiliated), the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the Gates Foundataion, they seem to be asking agencies such as the NIH to chip in as well.
