Misplaced priorities?

Taxpayer groups are upset that John McCain is seeking $10 million for a William Rehnquist Center. While this is a waste of money, should groups dedicated to working for limited government and lower taxes make eliminating earmarks a higher priority than, oh, I don’t know, the billions of dollars wasted in the war for Iraq, or the looming fiscal tsunami known as Medicare Part D?

BTW– If the money for the Rehnquist Center was requested by the Administration in its’ budget, instead of being sought by a Senator, than the “taxpayers’ groups” would not have complained. Getting rid of earmarks will not necessarily reduce federal spending by one penny. Instead, the war on earmarks will increase the power of the executive over the budget process, especially if combined with the line-item veto.
