A pediatrician tells me that 30% waste is way too low. I once estimated that medical care costs were 13x higher than even the rate of inflation since 1941. But let the doctor speak for himself:
“I am a general pediatrician and my brother is a libertarian family physician, and we discuss the absurdity of medical waste almost every day. The over consumption in health care resources in this country is massive.
“An ER visit for a cold can easily cost $1,000; keeping granny alive in the ICU for the last 2 weeks of her life costs more than a nice house; giving pills to 6-year olds because they are bratty or just normally restless and bored costs $250/mo, and on and on.
“Forget 30%! This guy either doesn’t see patients, doesn’t see the bills, or doesn’t know medicine. I believe we spend AT LEAST 10 times what we need to for good health care in this country.”
