Marijuana Gets Some Scientific Support

I’m not one for utilitarian arguments – you should be able to put whatever you want in your body no matter how dangerous it is – but, these studies may work for someone like Obama who claims that policy will be driven by science under his watch. In short, there is new research that shows that alcohol abuse is more harmful for teen brain development than marijuana abuse. (Of course, both of these substances are already illegal for teens, so that begs the question of what these laws are actually accomplishing.)

Another study shows that experts agree that marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol and tobacco. Alcohol is highly regulated in the US, but it is extremely unlikely that it will ever be prohibited again. Tobacco may be on the verge of complete prohibition, but is still technically legal for adults. So, assuming that laws are logical, then marijuana should be legal, too (and presumably highly regulated so that the politically-connected can benefit). Well, at least it would be a slight step in the direction of freedom.
