Writes Laurence May:
Bernard Madoff is like Anthony’s Trollope’s ‘Augustus Melmotte’ come to life from the pages of The Way We Live Now.12:40 am on December 22, 2008 Email Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.
One of my favorite of Trollope’s finest, The Way We Live Now was inspired by the financial scandals of the 1870s, and portrays the pervading commercial, political, moral, and intellectual dishonesty of the age. Just like the present age, actually.
And Madoff was such a nice man! Just like Melmotte.
