Lew: So, the chairman of the NEA refers to Barack Obama as “the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar.” If this bozo meant that Obama is the most powerful presidential writer since George W. Bush, I would find no fault with that. Perhaps the president writes under a pen name. Has he claimed all of the writings attributed to “Anonymous” as his own? If so, going back to Julius Caesar would tie in to such a claim. But if Obama is writing in his own name, I can only wonder at the obviously sparse reading habits of Mr. Landesman. Will the NEA begin funding university programs that teach classes on Obama’s writings alongside those of Shakespeare, Dante, Whitman, et. al. (or, for more modern offerings in academia, the works of Rod McKuen, Judy Blume, and Dr. Phil)?
If Obama has become the new standard for NEA recognition, perhaps I should get my grandchildren to start cranking out more of their finger-painting: they are certain to garner instant recognition for their superiority to Michelangelo, da Vinci, and Van Gogh!
