Libertarian Enemies in the Universities Running Scared

The U.S. empire trains its legions at places like Georgetown University which has a School of Foreign Service and, within that, a National Security Studies Program. Its web site informs us that “National Security Studies Programs have now been established at Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Tufts, Johns Hopkins, Syracuse, George Washington, the University of Chicago, the University of Georgia; the University of Illinois, the Army War College; the Industrial College of the Armed Forces; the College of Naval Warfare; the Naval Post Graduate School; the National Security Institute and the George C. Marshall College of International and Security Studies.”

The empire is not so strong and not so confident about its future that it disregards Ron Paul and Murray Rothbard. One instructor in Georgetown’s program, Gregory Hilton, has a blog in which he assassinates Rothbard‘s character and thought. He has twisted Rothbard’s thought so out of shape that at one point he says Rothbard is “reliably totalitarian”! Why would a supposed scholar launch such an absurd, thoroughly inaccurate and scurrilous diatribe against the libertarian views of Rothbard unless that writer feared that people, including his students, might read Rothbard and begin to question the empire? There are numerous links on the home page of Hilton’s blog to his blogs attacking Ron Paul and his positions. These show how frightened he is of Ron Paul’s gathering support among Americans. There are such titles as “Conservatives Should Not Be Silent About The Dangers of The Ron Paul Revolution,” “The Case Against Gold: Why Ron Paul Is Wrong About The Gold Standard,” and “The Case Against Ron Paul.” If the attack on Rothbard is representative, don’t expect that Hilton is capable of presenting fairly the thinking of the man he is attacking. I’ve read the one on gold too, and it is just as much crap as the one on Rothbard. If you want to know what else his students are exposed to, there is  his effusive praise of Bush and Bush’s attack on Iraq, also here.
