Says this Vietnam veteran who doesn’t want to be thanked for his service:

I was at a local video store sometime back and must have been wearing military (shirt?) because some kid came bopping up and asked about my time in military. Even though it was during Vietnam war,  I was pretty much just a warm body. Anyway, he was on his way to boot camp or shipping out to Afganistan, I forget which, and asked if I had any advise. He was stunned when I said desert and go to Canada (which is what I should have done). I guess he didn’t know what to think, so he said he wanted to thank me for my “service” to my country. I said that was not necessary because my tour of  duty was a failure because I took oath to defend/protect Constitution/freedom and I failed. That ended that conversation. My boss (jarhead) and me (navy) are both about same age and served about the same time and hold similar views about this country. We find it tiresome the constant glorification of the American military, the flag waving, the mindless idiots we work for and we are DOD Navy employees! Lew Rockwell.com rocks.
