Lew Beat Me to It

I was about to do a blog regarding the McCain/Lieberman/Graham unholy alliance, when I read Lew’s blog on the same topic. There was John McCain being interviewed on CNN (Central Neocon Network) and pontificating on how the U.S. needs to intensify its war efforts in Libya. He stammered around a bit when he was asked if the U.S. should focus on “taking out” Gadhaffi. McCain knows — although did not admit it — that Gadhaffi, like Osama bin Laden, must be kept alive to serve as the bogeyman for all this warmongering. Meanwhile, Joe Lieberman was intoning on how the U.S. needs to help the so-called “rebels” in Syria.

That all of this should be undertaken on Easter Sunday reminds me of how every holiday has been transformed into a day of celebration of statism and war. I asked my wife: “is there no day left for recognizing the importance of peace?” “Christmas,” she answered, reminding me that this was the birthday of the “prince of peace.” “Yeah,” I replied, “Santa Claus in a red-white-and-blue costume.”

I guess it all comes down to America celebrating the only activity at which it excels: war! George Carlin got it right when he said “we like war; we’re a war-like people. We’re good at it. It’s a good thing we are, because we aren’t good at anything else anymore.”
