Leader Day

Writes Joe Schembrie: “My wall calendar notes that while today is President’s Day in the USA, it’s Family Day in the Canadian province of Alberta.

“I think that says a lot of how far we have strayed from the original reason for the American Revolution. On a day that Canadians celebrate people and their private lives in voluntary association, we celebrate the concentration of state power in the hands of the Unitary Executive.

“Never mind that if we had a ‘Family Day’ in the US, it would touch off a huge debate about how government should define the word ‘family’ and how then should families be publicly meddled with!”
