Landmines

Writes Michael Barnett:

You brought up an excellent point about landmines. This site estimates that there are still 3.5 million landmines scattered throughout Vietnam and more than 40,000 Vietnamese have been wounded or killed since the “conflict’s” conclusion. Since the war ended about 25 years ago, that averages out to more than 4 people per day STILL being injured or killed by landmines in Vietnam! God only knows how high the number is if the statistics for all of Southeast Asia were to be compiled. It’s likely the clean up effort in South Korea has been much better thus far, but Cambodia is still a nightmare.
