KPMG Has Not Been Destroyed — Yet

The Bush Administration continues to do to the economy what Hurricane Katrina could not: devastate it. While KPMG was able to plead guilty to a single charge, the Bushies literally were threatening to destroy the firm through indictments and is going to try to imprison a bunch of KPMG executives.

Anyone even remotely familiar with accounting knows of the problems caused when the government needlessly eviscerated Arthur Andersen, not to mention the execrable Sarbanes-Oxley monostrosity. All this tells me that the neoconservatives in the administration not only control foreign policy, but also domestic policy. Only a neocon could try to say with a straight face that the Bushies are trying to “save” capitalism.

The late Warren Brookes once told me that the U.S. Government (in 1991) “is an obscenity from Capitol Hill to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.” It still is, Warren, it still is….
