KarenCare, Not ObamaCare

While John Mackey has a new column highlighting some of his ideas for moving toward a free market-based health care system, here’s why I don’t need or want the government to run my life, my body, or my brain. I put together a photo essay on my own website about my functional fitness workouts I do on my lunch hour using the props provided to me by a downtown urban environment. A fitness writer from the Detroit Free Press came across that piece and asked to do a feature story on me and why I do “functional” workouts using my outdoor environment, and the feature appeared in the Sunday Free Press. She came along with me on a workout, with a photographer, one afternoon almost two weeks ago. It’s a great plug for functional or “primal” fitness. When she interviewed me prior to and during the workout, I consistently emphasized the accountability factor concerning each individual’s pursuit of good health. I stressed the point that every individual is in control and is responsible for the large chunk of his or her output and end result. Preventative care is what you do to avoid abuse of your body and mind. I think those attitudes came through fairly well in the piece. Here is the online version of the Free Press story.
