Is Julian Assange Being Railroaded?

It’s an Alice in Wonderland prosecution against Assange, but a few quick comments. I can’t for the life of me figure out what crime he might have committed in Sweden. Second, he has not been charged in Sweden but is wanted for questioning. I take it they have no (tea party-beloved) Fifth Amendment right to remain silent. However, his lawyers say that Assange cooperated with Swedish authorities at all times. He voluntarily appeared for questioning in the U. K. It looks to me at this point that the Swedish and British legal authorities are railroading Assange for reasons that should be apparent to all. Countries build their reputations for legal probity slowly but lose them quickly.

I guess they can rip this one out of the law books:

“Excessive bail hath been required of persons committed in criminal cases, to elude the benefit of the laws made for the liberty of the subjects. Excessive bail ought not to be required.”

—The English Bill of Rights (1689)
