John Randolph Would Be Horrified

When Brandon Raub was unlawfully kidnapped by the feds, he was taken to the John Randolph Medical Center in Virginia. This institution was built along the banks of the Appomattox River on site of the birthplace of John Randolph of Roanoke (1773–1833), the great “libertarian” congressman who opposed the War of 1812 and sought to greatly restrict the power of the federal government.

The most well-known biography of Randolph was written by Russell Kirk. However, there is a new biography just has just come out on Randolph by David Johnson, the deputy attorney general for the state of Virginia. Better still, there is extensive attention to Randolph in Kevin Gutzman’s new book, James Madison and the Making of America.
