It’s not safe!

So says the Canadian government about bisphenol A. As of this minute, we know that BPA-containing baby bottles are not safe in Canada, but luckily, bottles with BPA here in the US are safe.

Besides the arbitrariness and the confusing and misleading information, there are bound to be unintended consequences to Canada’s ban. For example, it may be the BPA-free bottles are significantly more expensive, so that babies of poor families will be stuck re-using older plastic bottles than otherwise. These bottles may turn out to leach even more harmful chemicals due to their age. But we won’t know these consequences for years, and, of course, the bureaucrats will come up with some other scheme to “protect” us.
