It Is So Important to Laugh at the State

Today on Morning Joe, Richard Stengel of tiny Time mag was furious over the state dinner gatecrashers. They are evil, he said, because they generate laughter at the White House, and that is awful, since we must always look up to the WH, and respect it  (he did not say, obey it, but that is what he meant). As Hobbes noted, proto-Stengelian that he was, the king is most wounded by ridicule. Go, Saladis! You are doing great work for your country.

Note: thanks to all the movie and media propaganda, we tend to assume that the Secret Service is somehow different from the local donut-shop habitues. Nope. WH security is a joke. Obama says he has “100% confidence” in the SS. Just another lie.

UPDATE I notice that the regime is punishing three low-ranking uniformed SS guys over gate-crashergate. None of the bosses or even the regular agents. Just as the torture camp in Iraq was run not by high-ranking military and CIA officials, but by a couple of poor corporals.

UPDATE from Bill Potter:

We forget that the Secret Service is just another bumbling bureaucracy.  Its existence is part of the show.  There’s a line of controlling boobs waiting to step in for any “removed” president. This reminds me of Ron Paul’s comment yesterday regarding Bernanke’s confirmation hearing that it doesn’t really matter who’s driving the car, and I’ll add, especially when the car they’re trying to force us into is a Ford Pinto.
