Is the Census Bureau Politically Incorrect, or Just Shrewd?

I just received my Census form. Question Nine asks: “What is Person 1’s race?”

Choices:
White
Black, African Am., or Negro [Negro???!!!]
American Indian [emphasis mine] or Alaska Native

Why “American Indian”? Why not the politically correct “Native American”? Because the Bureau knows that a lot of people like myself know that “Native American” is a baloney term. I was born in the United States, therefore, I am a native American. After all, how can I not be a native American, yet can be a native New Yorker? The PC crowd can’t have it both ways. I think the reason why the Bureau used “American Indian” is because they knew that people like myself could legitimately select “Native American.”
