Impeaching Obama

No sooner had Pres. Obama announced that he had just directed the killing of Osama bin Laden, than members of the Bogeyman Lobby began warning that bin Laden’s death would increase terrorist acts against Americans. If this is true, wouldn’t his actions that promote more death and destruction in this country amount to an impeachable offense? Would the capture of bin Laden — in order to stand trial for his wrongdoings — not have been more conducive to a legally principled way of dealing with such matters? Of course, neither Mr. Obama nor his predecessor, George W. Bush, has been desirous of engaging in principled behavior. Starting wars [the central crime in the Nuremberg trials] and doing so in violation of the Constitution; engaging in torture; and now carrying out the murder of bin Laden, all involve far more serious “high crimes and misdemeanors” than what led to Bill Clinton’s impeachment for lying about his sexual adventures!

There is neither the intellectual honesty nor courage in congress to even contemplate such an act; nor do most Americans appear willing to stop chanting “USA!, USA!” long enough to insist that their political system rise to levels of propriety above those set by Attila the Hun!
