At least, that’s the rule in Washington, D.C. Four years ago, Senator Pat Roberts’s Intelligence Committee staff assured me that this important report would be out by Christmas 2004.
Fat Chance.
While the minority views pick some nits, no one really tries to defend Bush or Cheney. They are has-beens. But many GOP senators are privately disconsolate that this administration has delivered the moral high ground to the left, free of charge. And it’s only going to get worse.
From Chairman Rockefeller’s remarks:
“Unfortunately, our Committee has concluded that the Administration made significant claims that were not supported by the intelligence. In making the case for war, the Administration repeatedly presented intelligence as fact when in reality it was unsubstantiated, contradicted, or even non-existent.”
