Has to be this gem from the ever-dynamic Virginia Postrel. Thanks to Lew for drawing attention to it in his excellent column regarding the Vatican official who had the nerve to suggest that Saddam be treated humanly .

Postrel is not just denying original sin, she is denying Lord Acton’s axiom that “power corrupts.” After all, if only truly evil people like Saddam are sinners than state power is only a problem when the state is controlled by bad people. There is nothing wrong when state power when it is held by good people. In fact, enlightened folks like Ms. Dynamism have a duty to use state power to depose evil leaders and impose their vision of “democratic capitalism” on the world.
