I Have Never Had Any Hope in the Republican Party

In reply to some comments I received regarding my “Ichabod!” article today on LRC I should say that I have never had any hope in the Republican Party. Years ago, when I was a registered Republican, and when I thought the Republican Party was the lesser of two evils, I voted Republican, but only because I was voting against Democrats. I still despised the Republican Party for its numerous sellouts. I remember in the early 1990s writing letters to the editor of Human Events (that were published) about how sorry the Republicans were. The Republican nomination of John McCain over Ron Paul, and the treatment given to Dr. Paul’s supporters, was certainly no surprise to me. I haven’t taken the Republican Party serious for years when it comes to being a friend of liberty, free markets, and limited government. My article is from the perspective of those libertarian-leaning Republicans who keep forgiving the GOP and hoping that perhaps “this time” the Republican Party will not screw up and screw them again. They are the ones who need to cry “Ichabod!” I did so years ago, and with this article publically do so again.
