The Stephen Dill Lee Institute is sponsoring a conference on “Jefferson Davis vs. Abraham Lincoln” in Charleston on Feb. 6-7 at the Francis Marion Hotel. I’m serving as the master of ceremonies. There will be some great speakers, including:

Edwin C. Bearss, former chief historian of the National Park Service, speaking on “The Dahlgren Raid,” Lincoln’s failed plot to assassinate Jefferson Davis. (I have heard Mr. Bearss lecture on several occasions, and he is probably the most knowlegeable human being alive about anything and everything having to do with the battles, personalities, etc. of the War to Prevent Southern Independence).

Professor Donald Livingston of Emory University on “Davis, Lincoln, and Liberty.”

Walter Brian Cisco, author of War Crimes Against Southern Civilians, speaking on “Davis, Lincoln, and the Rules of War.”

Professor Marshall DeRosa of Florida Atlantic University on “The Confederate Experiment in Constitutional Government.”Professor Samuel Smith of Liberty University will speak on “Davis, Lincoln, and Christian Faith.”

Clyde Wilson, recovering academic historian, will speak on “A Sacrifice for His People: Jefferson Davis’s Persecution and Imprisonment.”

The Saturday evening banquet will feature the noted historian and legal scholar Kent Masterson Brown who will talk on “Jefferson Davis, Constitutionalist.”

Registration is $150/person. Call 1-800-693-4943 to register. The Francis Marion Hotel is at 1-877-756-2121.
