Hillsdale College: Obscuring the Truth, Defending War

At the top of each left-hand page in Hillsdale College’s monthly newsletter Imprimis is the statement: Hillsdale College: pursuing truth, defending liberty since 1844. The September issue contains an article by Brain T. Kennedy, the president of the Claremont Institute, about how the United States needs a missile defense system because of the threat of Iran. After all, “the goal of radical Islam is the conversion, subjugation, or destruction of the infidel peoples—first and foremost the citizens of the U.S., Western Europe, and Israel.” The October issue, which I have not received in the mail yet, but which is online, has an article by Michael Ledeen about how much of a military threat Iran is called “Understanding Iran.”

What is never mentioned in these articles is the non-religious reason why Iran may have a problem with the United States. On the same day I read the September issue of Imprimis, which also contained an article by Sarah Palin adapted from a speech she delivered on a recent Hillsdale College Alaska cruise, I saw Stephen Kinzer’s detailed analysis in Smithsonian magazine of how the United States “overthrew the most democratic government it [Iran] had ever known.” Yet, this is old news that Kinzer and others have talked about for years. Why is this event in Iranian and U.S. history never mentioned? Perhaps a better question would be: Why do neocons love war and want to kill Persians?
