The 50th anniversary of the building of the Berlin Wall has come and gone (August 13). East German soldiers shot and killed at least 100 people trying to escape to West Germany. What heroes. Not those killed trying to escape, but the soldiers who shot them. They followed orders. They were patriotic. They loved their country. They obeyed their commander in chief. They carried out their mission.
How dare I say that? How dare Americans make such lame excuses for U.S. soldiers killing people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the other places they are sent.
