Has 9/11 ‘Changed Everything’ or Not?

All during the Dub-Yuh presidency the neocon talking heads endlessly repeated the mantra, “9/11 changed everything” whenever anyone objected to the GOP’s evisceration of civil liberties and its attack on the Constitution. Dub-Yuh himself once called the Constitution something like “an old piece of paper.”

During the Dub-Yuh years it was impossible to watch Sean Hannity for more than five minutes without hearing him repeat this mantra. But, alas, it has now been several years since I have heard anyone, including Hannity, say this. All of the GOP “contenders” are solid Ron Paulian constitutionalists all of a sudden — or at least their rhetoric suggests it. Could it be that the Republicans and their media mouthpieces are not really sincere with all their talk about adhering to the Constitution? Could it be that they don’t really believe in constitutional limits on government but only want to use the Constitution to block Obama? If they win back the White House in 2012, will they return to their “9/11 changed everything” theory of the Constitution? Are they no better than the Democrats in ignoring the Constitution? Are they actually worse than the Democrats by praising the Constitution while working to destroy it?

If you answered “yes” to all these questions go to the head of the class.
