Got Mental Illness?

This headline on Reuters reads: “Nearly 40 Percent of Europeans Suffer Mental Illness.” How can anyone read this report and take anything in it seriously? It’s amusing how insomnia gets included in the category of “mental illness,” per the headline. A snippet:

Europeans are plagued by mental and neurological illnesses, with almost 165 million people or 38 percent of the population suffering each year from a brain disorder such as depression, anxiety, insomnia or dementia, according to a large new study.

…”Only early targeted treatment in the young will effectively prevent the risk of increasingly largely proportions of severely ill…patients in the future.”

Which leads us to the “get ‘em while they’re young” doctrine here in the U.S. Yes, I know the story on Reuters pinpoints Europe, but the entire western medical-psycho-pharmaceutical establishment operates from the same principles of profitable protocol and behavior control through the use of pharmaceuticals and witch doctoring from the establishment psychology quacks. The problem lies in the fact that much of this “we’re all sick” fear mongering is farcical, and for those who do suffer from “mental illness,” no mention is ever made of the SAD (Standard American Diet) that is now the diet of most of western civilization. Members of the alternative medical community and unbiased scientists have established the link between mental health and nutrition through the use of science. You can start with Emily Deans, MD for some guidance. Here is Dr. Dean’s interview with Chris Kresser on nutrition and mental health. Thanks to all who sent this article to me. Follow me on Twitter @karendecoster.
