Goldfinger

I love the old James Bond movie, Goldfinger, even if it does make a gold dealer and international trader the villain. One of my favorite parts is the hilarious briefing of M and 007 by an official of the Bank of England. He explains why gold smuggling is so dangerous: the gold stocks of the US and the UK enable them to know the value, relative and absolute, of their currencies, and any “leakage” is therefore damaging.
